Inocean engineering work on Eirik Raude

February 2008 Ocean Rig received Letter of Award for Eirik Raude for a 3-year term contract with Tullow Oil for development drilling offshore Ghana.

Eirik Raude arrived in Ghana in fourth-quarter 2008 and drilled the Mahogany-3 well on West Cape Three Points Block. Since then it has drilled the Tweneboa-1 exploration well on Tano Deep Block.

Design and engineering support

Further drilling will require a conversion of some sections of Eirik Raude, due to extensive subsea operations. This work will be executed while the rig is in operation. Related to this Ocean Rig has asked Inocean for design and engineering support.

Scope of work

Reidar Berthelsen (photo), Project Manager in Inocean, just visited Eirik Raude at the field offshore Ghana, where he did a survey of the rig.

"After several projects for Ocean Rig, we know Eirik Raude and Leiv Eiriksson very well," says Berthelsen. "This time our scope of work covers different tasks regarding steel design, equipments and how the changes on the rig will affect stability, deck load capacity etc."
