A method for achieving efficient propulsion inspired by the eel's flexible form of locomotion.
A mechanical eel movement is achieved with the help of a linked construction that utilises the vortex principle. There are numerous areas of application, including AUVs for deep sea inspection along the seabed and mine clearing along shorelines that propeller-driven vessels cannot reach.
Energy captured and harvested
This solution has also been developed in reverse to allow the construction to be anchored in ocean currents. By establishing a vortex along the construction, the energy of the ocean current can be captured and harvested.
