The Inocean Marotec M6k, M8k and Giant 10k are MODU designs further developed from the prototype M56 "Transocean Arctic", for harsh environment and water depths up to 3500 meters. Typically for The Giant 10k is the environmentally friendly profile that includes NOx reduction, high energy utilization with waste heat recovery and no harmful discharge thanks to a closed drain system.
Here are some green Giant 10k-facts:
Emission from exhaust gases
- NOX reduction system to reduce the emissions according to IMO TIR-3 ( ex £2.4 gm/kWh).
Zero discharge
- Improved slip-joint design to prevent leakages
- Water hydraulic is used wherever practicable and possible to avoid any spillage of hydraulic oil
- Separate drain-system is provided for all areas in the drilling area with dedicated process plant for mud spillage
- Large slop tanks are provided for intermediate collection of mud spill
- All bilge pumping to a large storage tank connected to a bilge separator system with capacity to clean all overboard water below 15-ppm oil content
Heat recovery
- For Arctic areas, cost saving and environmental friendly heat recovery from the diesel engines allow for full winterization heating without the use of additional fuel.
- Heat recovery based on hot water for efficient heat transfer and lowest possible personnel and fire risk
- Heat generation system is based on pressurized (5 bar) circulating hot water using the running machinery as the primary source of heat and oil burning boilers as back-up.
- Total heat generating capacity at 100% engine load and both boilers in operation: 48MW.
- Total practical heat generation with four engines running at 60% load and both boilers in operation is 20 MW. Estimated demand for full winterization is approx. 12 MW, covered by 4 running engines without any boilers in operation.
- The engine rooms are provided with water to air heat exchangers that can be used for heating or cooling as required by ambient temperature. Will heat the required air to the engine rooms to 20°C at -30°C ambient temperature. Does not affect the heat balance for the heat generation system described above.
